Human Nature describes the Nature aspect of the Object of Human Beings. Thus, before understanding the Nature, we must first understand the Object of human beings. Thankfully we have already had years of scientific research and studies to give us an accurate depiction of the physical characteristics of humans.
Humans are made of organs including skin, muscle, bone, digestive system, brain, heart, nervous system, and so on. These individual systems are made up of cells that have their own physical characteristics and purposes. Blood cells, skin cells, brain cells, and so on. We then get into the DNA of humans as well as chemical reactions and eventually to the atomic scale.
By analyzing humans through time we see what happens to these systems and the body as a whole over time with and without influences. A body without food will die after a period of time. A body without water will die in a shorter period of time. A body without air will die in a shorter period of time. A body with a serious injury will die. We see this description in all human beings, not just one. Extreme heat or extreme cold can kill people, as well as many chemicals that can help people or hurt them. People can overdose on chemicals even if an amount of that chemical is needed for good health (potassium is a good example).
Analyzing people over time shows us the basics of people, what they need to survive and what they do to survive. Biology is the first factor in influencing human behavior, and it is important to understand how biology works towards influencing human behavior.
The main influence of Human Behavior according to Antelism is the model of Human Emotion, otherwise known as Emotion Theory. All action comes from human emotion, and thus it is the analysis of human emotion that is needed to understand and predict human behavior. The first order of human emotion is raw biology.
This is how the Antelist model goes. Biology has needs (Biological Needs) of survival (food, water, air) and desires (reproduction), Biology creates emotion to influence human behavior in achieving Biological Needs. These are the Primary Emotions of Survival known as Hunger, Thirst, Desire to Breath (air), and Sexual Desire. This is the First Order of human emotion, the four basic emotions used for human survival. These emotions have one thing in common, they influence human beings to act in a way to achieve something, to move towards something. Hunger makes you move towards eating food, Thirst makes you move towards drinking water, Desire to Breath moves you towards inhaling air, and sexual desire and urges move you towards engaging in sexual reproduction.
The second order of human emotion on the other hand are emotions meant to move people away from things. These are the secondary survival emotions. The two primary emotions are Pain and Fear. Fear is an emotion that prevents people from doing something, it moves people away from something. If a person saw a 12 foot tall animal with large sharp teeth, their brain would generate an emotion of Fear to avoid that animal to protect the person’s own survival. The example with pain is putting your hand on something extremely hot, your body experiences pain and moves the hand away from the hot object.
Notice something very different about the second order human emotion. The main driver for second order emotion are external stimuli. You see a scary animal and experience fear, you feel a hot object and feel pain. The first order emotions on the other hand are generated internally regardless of external stimuli. You can feel the emotion of hunger without seeing food, you can feel the emotion of thirst without seeing water, you can feel the emotion of desire to breath without seeing air, and you can feel the emotion of sexual desire without seeing a person who stimulates one’s sexual desire. The second order emotions on the other hand are caused by external stimulation. Fear and Pain are caused by external stimulation, not internal ones like the first order of emotions. Yes, over time through conditioning you can develop psychological conditions where you feel fear and anxiety from mental conditions, but in this analysis we are analyzing a human being that is a blank slate, one without society or even developed language yet.
How do we know that human beings of the past experienced these emotions? First is the premise that human beings are biologically extremely similar today, and we analyze today that these emotions exist in almost all human beings from an early age in life and continues throughout their entire life. Second we can look through history where people hundreds and thousands of years ago describe these emotions in detail in ancient writings. Third we have the comparable where we can analyze similar animals to human beings and see the same behaviors. Fourth we can ask “Does This Make Sense?” a form of Analysis in Antelism. If human beings have an innate desire to survive, does the existence of Fear and Pain make sense? The answer is yes, yes it does. Fifth we ask does this make sense from a physical analysis argument. For the emotion of pain it makes sense since an extremely hot object kills and destroys a humans cells and organs and can kill the entire person. Thus logically it makes sense for a mechanism to exist to prevent people from engaging in behaviors or putting themselves in situations that will cause the destruction of their body, thus the emotion of Pain makes sense. The emotion of Fear is a trickier emotion to understand and will have its own analysis.
In summary there are a couple primary emotions that exist because of Biology. We can verify the existence of these emotions through Witness testimony, Observation, and Logical Deduction. When there is so much evidence to the existence of these emotions Antelism considers their existence to be irrefutable. Thus it is a part of Antelist orthodoxy.
