This chapter of GOAM covers a concept known as Societal GOAM. A GOAM Society is when a society reaches a “General State of GOAM” and Societal GOAM is the Level (degree) or GOAM in that society. Societal GOAM is a major focus of Antelism. Truth teaches us how to view and understand reality, GOAM is a moral compass for all individuals, and Societal GOAM is the general goal of Antelism.
Antelism as an ideology is not just a list of principles, it is also a list of goals, and the goal of Societal GOAM is close to the top of the list.
The methods of achieving a high level of Societal GOAM and eventually a GOAM Society is discussed in the third pillar of Accountability. It is important to understand that a GOAM Society and an Antel Society are two different things. A GOAM Society is one that achieves a societal state of GOAM while an Antel Society is a society that follows Antelism. And in a later book there is the Accounta-Society which is a society that follows Accountability.
To achieve Societal GOAM one must do two things. First they must achieve the Good of Oneself, that is making sure that they are a Good person. Society is the collective of all the people within that society, so improving the Goodness of Oneself will improve the Goodness of Society even if it doesn’t have a visible effect on society as a whole.
Once one achieves a high level state of GOM (Good of Man) for oneself, they can then start to work towards the Goodness of others.
The fundamental problem and trap that many people fall into is that they focus on a strict moral code that prioritizes other people above oneself. Just like you cannot demand one person to suffer for the benefit for 10 others, you cannot demand yourself to suffer for the benefit of 10 others. This violates the GOAM “All Men” principle, you are not morally obliged to suffer for the benefit of other people, and you shall not do so until you reached a state of Personal GOM (Good of Man).
By increasing individual Goodness you are increasing the goodness of society as a whole and moving towards a GOAM Society, however the other thing you are doing is by creating stronger people is you are creating people who can then influence the society and move it in the direction of GOAM. Remember, Strength is considered a Good attribute to have, and reaching higher levels of strength means that you are reaching a higher level of Goodness for oneself.
In conclusion, Societal GOAM is the Goodness of a Society, Antelism as an ideology has an explicit goal of achieving societies with high levels of GOAM, and finally the first step in achieving this goal is for individuals to focus on achieving their own Goodness as long as it is not at the expense of others.
