Antelism uses a unique vocabulary to explain its concepts. The word Antel itself is a word created that doesn’t exist in any dictionary. Antelism doesn’t just create new words, but it redefines currently existing words. Thus, it is important to understand both the Antelist definition of things, but the view of Definitions in general.
What is a Definition? A definition is simply the meaning of a word. However this simple explanation of the word definition is often not enough to truly understand Definitions and the human behavior and interaction of Definitions. This has become a large issue in modern society where people are arguing over the meanings of words rather than arguing over what action to perform to achieve a higher state of GOAM. Thus we have to look at definitions more closely.
It first requires understanding the Antelist principles behind Truth. Truth is all that exists, where it exists, and when it exists, as well as the secondary pillars of Nature and Design. What are words? Words are man made concepts and ideas, and any uniquely man made (something that can only be created by a man due to the silence of the universe without life) that inherently means that there is no Objectivity to it. A computer is not a Uniquely Man Made thing because although extremely unlikely, the physical arrangement of those components can exist. However a word for example, the sound might exist without men, but the meaning behind a word does not exist without men. Therefore it is not an objective Truth such as the three pillars or design.
In Antelist Thought (Antelist Ideology), a Definition is the Vote of Confidence of a Belief that an Individual puts as the meaning of a specific word. Although that sentence appears complicated, it is a relatively simple explanation of what a Word and Definition is. Definitions to Words are just the meaning that an individual gives to that word. Nothing more and nothing else. What that means, is that definitions are entirely subjective, since a word by itself has no meaning, meaning is only prescribed to a word by an individual. The key important takeaway is that definitions are created by individual people, they are not created by society as a whole.
The importance of this understanding of the word Definition relates to the importance of common communication amongst people. If words do not share the same meaning between two people then those two people effectively cannot communicate. At the same time if two people have a disagreement with regards to the definition of a word, that disagreement can be ignored and bypassed due to the understanding that words do not have an objective definition but rather are defined by individuals and individuals only.
There is an inherent rejection to such a concept due to “Common Sense”, and that instinctual rejection is rightly justified in the context of our modern society. The idea that definitions are completely arbitrary is radical, and one quickly realizes the counter argument that someone cannot just call a physical apple fruit a banana and say that that’s the new real definition. It would be preposterous for people to start calling ovens a couch instead, or a hat a sandwich, or any other absurd combination and mix ups. One can’t say the real definition of an apple is a piece of fabric, it doesn’t make sense.
That brings us to the Antelist answer to that, and that is the introduction of a new phrase known as “Popular Definition”. Popular Definitions are definitions that are most commonly used for specific words. If 99% of people say that the definition of the word “banana” is that of a specific yellow fruit and one person says that the definition of the word “banana” is actually a green hat then the “Popular Definition” of the word “banana” is the definition of the yellow fruit. Definitions to words are subjective, and a mass society can collectively assign specific definitions to specific words and those become the commonly accepted definition of those words, thus becoming the Popular Definition.
When Antelism is referring to a unique “Antelist Definition” of a word it will use that word with a capital starting letter like Truth, when Antelism is referring to a word by its Popular Definition it will use that word in all lowercase or will state ahead of time that it is referring to the common definition of that word.
In Conclusion, Words and Definitions exist, but they are human made constructs. As human made constructs (thoughts/ideas) they are subjective, and the result is there are no objective human construct. Thus Words and Definitions cannot be purely objective, which means they are all subjective. Human society for the sake of communication collectively agrees on the definitions for individual words. These collectively agreed upon definitions are known as Popular Definitions. And finally, Antelism has its own unique definitions for words and has what is referred to as “Antelist Definitions”. Understanding these Antelist words and Antelist Definitions are important for streamlining communication and ideological unity.
